Cookie policy
Versione 1.2 · in vigore dal 18 agosto 2026
This page lists everything FootNews saves on your device, what it is for and how long it stays. It is a closed list: if tomorrow we add something, it appears here.
The shortest way to say it
FootNews does not profile you and does not follow you around other sites. There is no third-party script on our pages: no advertising one, no measurement one, none of those that piece together what you do around the web. Not one.
What we save serves to make work what you asked for — keeping you signed in, remembering the language, not making you start a quiz over — plus two interface conveniences you can delete whenever you like. That is why you find no banner asking you to accept: there is nothing to accept. Below you will find the full list, entry by entry.
Advertising too, which does exist, saves nothing on your device. Until 17 August 2026 it left a random code there: we removed it — together with the outside tool that showed the banner — instead of asking your permission to keep it.
Cookies and local storage: the difference
A cookie is a small file that the browser sends back to the site on every request. Local storage, on the other hand, stays on your device and does not travel: only the page reads it, when needed.
The law treats the two the same way — what counts is that something is being written on your device, not how — and that is why we list them together.
Everything we store
The entries marked necessary are the ones without which the service does not do what you asked: for these the law does not require consent. The others concern only interface conveniences, stay on your device and you can delete them whenever you like.
Next to each entry you will also find the technical name it is stored under, if you want to look for it yourself in the browser. They all start with footnews: if you used the service before August 2026 you may still find a few with the old name, and they disappear by themselves on the first visit.
| WHAT IT IS | WHERE | WHAT IT IS FOR | FOR HOW LONG | REQUIRED |
|---|---|---|---|---|
The language you chose NEXT_LOCALE | Cookies | Remembers the language, so you don’t have to set it every visit. | One year, or until you clear your browser cookies. | Yes |
Your sign-in footnews_src_tkn · footnews_token | Local storage | Keeps you signed in: without it you would have to type the password on every page. | Until you sign out or delete the account: signing out removes it. | Yes |
Your name and your picture footnews_user · @footnews_user_profile_full | Local storage | Keeps them to hand, so they are not requested from the server on every screen. | Until you sign out. Signing out removes them. | Yes |
The sources you follow footnews_followed_sources | Local storage | Used to build your feed. | Until you sign out or change the selection. | Yes |
The registration to complete footnews_pending_activation | Local storage | Remembers that you have a sign-up to confirm, so you can pick it up where you left it. | Until registration is complete. | Yes |
How you left the assistant ai_sidebar_collapsed · suggestionTextAI | Local storage | Remembers whether the panel was open and what you were writing. | Until you clear the site data. | No |
Your quiz session mq_session_… (one per quiz) | Local storage | Keeps the session open, so you don’t start over. | Until you sign out: signing out removes them all. | Yes |
Usage statistics
We count how many people use the service and which pages they open, with a tool installed on a server of ours. It uses no cookies and assigns you no stable identifier: to count a day’s visitors it computes a throwaway code from IP address and device type, which changes every day and is not kept.
The result is aggregate numbers that do not allow anyone to be traced back to. That is why we do not ask you for consent: there would be nothing to give it on. The detail is in the privacy policy.
Advertising
FootNews is free and shows ads. They are ours: we sell them and a server of ours serves them. No third-party script gets into the pages, and there is no ad network that recognises you elsewhere.
Which ad you get is decided by where you are — the section, the language, the type of screen — not by who you are. And we leave nothing on your device to do it: no code, no cookie, nothing to delete. What we record is that an ad was shown, and when: a count, not a trace.
The detail of what we record when an ad is shown is in the privacy policy.
Other people’s content
When you open an article, you leave FootNews and go to the publication’s site: from that moment that site’s rules apply, including its own. The same goes for embedded videos, which may write things of their own on your device when you start them.
We have no control over those entries and cannot list them here: you will find them in the policies of the respective sites.
How to delete everything
Signing out of your account removes the entries tied to the session. To remove the rest you can clear the site data from the browser settings — or, on the app, uninstall it.
Deleting these entries harms nothing: you will just have to sign in again and pick the language again.
Changes
If we add or remove something, this list changes along with the service and the version goes up.
If one day an outside ad network, third-party measurement or anything that recognises you beyond here were to come in, we would ask you before switching it on — not after. That is the line we do not intend to cross. For any doubt: support@footnews.ai.
- Versione 1.2 — 18 agosto 2026: The advertising code removed: we no longer write it and it deletes itself for anyone who still has it. Also removed the outside tool that showed the cookie banner — it was the only third-party script we loaded. From today everything we save serves the service.
- Versione 1.1 — 17 agosto 2026: Added the code behind the advertising (fn_adv_v on the site, the matching entry in the app): it is the first non-essential entry on the list. The opening part, which said there was no advertising, was rewritten accordingly.
- Versione 1.0 — 10 agosto 2026: First edition written in-house, derived from the code. Replaces the version generated by an outside service.
